Zach Davis, a Ph.D. candidate in English Literature, has more than 10 years of experience working with instructional technology and web applications in both academic and corporate settings. Shortly after earning a bachelors degree in English and Italian, Zach moved to New York City to pursue a Ph.D. and taught English and literature at the college level for 4 years. During that time, he became interested in instructional technology and web application development. After teaching himself HTML, CSS, PHP, Perl, and Javascript in order to create online teaching applications for his courses, Zach spent 3 years as an Instructional Technology Fellow for the City University of New York (CUNY) Honors College, where he developed their Intranet in TYPO3. Zach also helped to develop the CUNY Distributed Learning Network, a web-based directory of online courses taught in the university system, as well as other education related-websites. In 2004, Zach founded Cast Iron Coding with Lucas, and has been developing sites using TYPO3 ever since.
Zach's interests include literature and culture, the impact of technology on cultural practices, and discovering practical applications for web-based technologies in the college classroom. Zach is committed to web standards and is a firm proponent of website usability and accessibility.
Lucas lives and works in Portland, OR. He began using PHP five years ago when he wanted to create an online photo gallery for pictures taken with his new digital camera. Five years later, the digital camera isn't so new, but his programming hobby has grown into an exciting career. Currently, Lucas is responsible for backend programming, custom TYPO3 extension development, and PHP/MySQL Web Application Development at Cast Iron Coding. Lucas is is also a skillled javascript coder and has experience working with XHTML / CSS and web standards.
When not writing TYPO3 extensions you might find Lucas biking at high speeds through the streets of downtown Portland, trying out a new recipe at home, or taking in the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest while floating down a river in an inner tube.
Upon leaving his home town of Chicago Gabe Blair spent some time in New York City, where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Hunter College of the City University of New York while doing everything from managing a high volume restaurant in the East Village to starting his own record label. While working at a major pharma company, he began experimenting in the evenings with PHP and MySQL in order to build a website for his then-Brooklyn-based label. This led to a series of web development jobs as a freelancer, during which time he became familiar with the TYPO3 content management framework. Shortly after moving to Portland, Gabe joined Cast Iron Coding as an adjunct developer and project manager.
When he's not putting together powerful and easy-to-use Typo3 extensions, or solving problems with Cast Iron Coding, he's bound to be making good use of an acoustic guitar, practicing Taekwon-do, or managing the development of his small record label.
