Collections and Series
We built a backend bridge for importing over 4,500 Hockney works and resources from the Foundation's internal database into their new CMS. We created interfaces that allow Foundation staff to group works into series, and for the public to browse, search, and filter the collection
Careful visual essays detailing each year of David Hockney's life, starting from 1937 allow users to see how Hockney's work evolved across decades. Each page includes quotes, long-form text, and galleries. We also implemented this section as a kiosk iPad app during LACMA's 2018 David Hockney's Portraits Exhibition.
Focus on Discoverability
Each work was analyzed using Google Vision APIs for text recognition and subject identification. This data was combined with foundation supplied metdata, and fed into Elasticsearch. We constructed a faceted search interface on top of Elasticsearch, with indexing integrated into the CMS.
Robust Content Management
We built out backend content management interfaces in October that offered Foundation staff the ability to quickly create complex pages from a library of available content types. Without sacrificing simplicity and usability, the backend provides a robust editing experience.
