Established in 1979, MOCA is the only artist-founded museum in Los Angeles. MOCA houses one of the most compelling collections of contemporary art in the world, comprising roughly 7000 objects, and has a diverse history of ground-breaking, historically-significant exhibitions. Cast Iron Coding built a new site for MOCA using the October Content Management System.

Clean, Elegant Design

We partnered with the design studio Surface Streets, who iterated and distilled designs to shape a distinctive experience. The outcome was an elegant and provocative presentation of the museum’s collection that helps to solidify its significance in the world of contemporary art.

Filterable Programs Across Four Locations

We built out a robust listing of Museum programs, filterable by type, location, and date. Museum staff manage these through an intuitive content management backend.

Mobile Responsive Layouts

Because a high percentage of Museum visitors access the site from their mobile device, a high level of attention was paid to mobile responsive site behavior.

Powerful Backend Interfaces

We carefully built out code and database models representing MOCA's key content types, and gave backend editors a simple-to-use and scalable interface for managing these models.
