The Norton Museum

Founded in 1941, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Floria recently embarked upon a significant expansion designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster. To coincide with the museum’s reopening in early 2019, Cast Iron built the Norton a new website using the October Content Management System.

Clean, Spacious Design

We partnered with the design studio Surface Streets, who created a sleek, modern design befitting the museum’s dynamic spaces.

Showing Off a Distinctive Collection

The Norton’s permanent collection includes more than 7,600 works in five curatorial categories: European, American, Chinese, Contemporary, and Photography. It was important to the museum to showcase works from the permanent collection, along with rotating exhibitions, in a variety of customizable, mobile-responsive grids, slideshows, and hero images.

We created a suite of content elements for displaying optimized images with elegant transitions that can be easily populated, edited, and recombined with October’s flexible backend interfaces.

A Modern Events Calendar

Among the museum’s top goals for their new site was to promote their rich programming with a more intuitive calendar feature. We built an easy-to-use, filterable calendar that maps to common expressions of time like ‘today,’ ‘tomorrow,’ and ‘this weekend’ and uses event database records to minimize maintenance and content entry time by museum staff.
