Palm Springs Art Museum

Founded in 1938 as a regional museum with natural science exhibits and artifacts by the indigenous Cahuilla people, the Palm Springs Art Museum (originally the Palm Springs Desert Museum) has grown to be amajor art institution that serves communities throughout California’s Coachella valley with exhibits, performances, and workshops at three campuses. In 2019, Cast Iron Coding completed a new website for the museum using the October Content Management System.

Inspired, Intuitive Design

We have a strong history of partnering with Surface Streets, an LA-based design studio. For the Palm Springs Art Museum, their design was inspired by desert hues and featured modern user interface elements that encourage site visitors to discover new programs and exhibitions.

Showcasing Three Museum Locations

The museum needed their digital presence to represent their identity as “One museum, three locations.” They wanted to present a cohesive brand while clearly distinguishing between programming at each of the campuses.

To do this, we designed our database record relationships to make sorting events and exhibitions by location intuitive from both a content entry and end user standpoint.

Flexible, Straightforward Content Management

One of the museum’s priorities was a robust content management system that would allow museum staff to enter content and publish pages on an ongoing basis. Using the October CMS, we built reusable custom elements and templates with intuitive backend controls.
